Download BioBuilds for your OS and hardware architecture.

Current Release:

BioBuilds 2017.05

BioBuilds 2017.05 was released on 31 May 2017. Current Current miniconda users, including BioBuilds 2015.11, 2016.04, and 2016.11 users, can quickly install it by running:

conda update conda
conda create -c biobuilds -p /path/to/biobuilds-2017.05 biobuilds=2017.05

New BioBuilds users should first download the appropriate Miniconda release:

and run "bash Miniconda-latest-<os>-<arch>.sh" to install conda. Once that is completed, you can then run the conda update and conda create commands above to install the BioBuilds release.

BioBuilds 2016.11

BioBuilds 2016.11 was released on 22 November 2016. Current miniconda users, including BioBuilds 2015.11 and 2016.04 users, can quickly install it by running:

conda update conda
conda create -c biobuilds -p /path/to/biobuilds-2016.11 biobuilds=2016.11

New BioBuilds users should first download the appropriate Miniconda release:

BioBuilds 2016.04

BioBuilds 2016.04 was released on 11 April 2016. Current miniconda users, including BioBuilds 2015.11 users, can quickly install it by running:

conda update conda
conda create -c biobuilds -p /path/to/biobuilds-2016.04 biobuilds=2016.04

New BioBuilds users should first download the appropriate Miniconda release:

and run "bash Miniconda-latest-<os>-<arch>.sh" to install conda. Once that is completed, you can then run the conda update and conda create commands above to install the BioBuilds release.

BioBuilds 2015.11

BioBuilds 2015.11 was released on 23 November 2015. BioBuilds now uses Continuum Analytics’ miniconda instead of a tarball for installation; to install this new release, first download the appropriate version of Miniconda:

and then run "bash Miniconda-latest-<os>-<arch>.sh" to install it. (Note: root privileges are not required when installing to a directory where you already have write permissions, such as your $HOME directory.)

Linux on POWER8 (ppc64le) users: Before running the rest of the installation, you must first upgrade conda itself by running “conda update -c biobuilds -y conda“; failing to do so will cause the install commands below to fail with an “AssertionError: emboss-6.5.7-0.tar.bz2 MatchSpec(u'libgd')” error.

Once miniconda has been installed on your system and added to your $PATH, you can then install BioBuilds 2015.11 to the directory "/path/to/biobuilds-2015.11" by running:

conda create -c biobuilds -p /path/to/biobuilds-2015.11 biobuilds=2015.11

Adding "/path/to/biobuilds-2015.11/bin" to your $PATH (for example, by setting it in your ~/.bashrc file) will then allow you to run BioBuilds applications without providing a full path. Please refer to the “BioBuilds 2015.11 Release Notes” for additional information about other installation options (including partial installs) and required system libraries.
